Mindfulness Monday: November 20th

Today's activity: Yoga!

Yoga is a transformative practice famous for its dual impact on physical and mental health. Physically, it enhances flexibility, strength, and posture through a combination of poses and stretches. Studies have consistently demonstrated the positive effects of yoga on various aspects of well-being, including stress reduction and improved respiratory health. Mentally, yoga promotes relaxation, mindfulness, and emotional balance, contributing to better overall mental health. Research indicates that regular yoga practice can enhance cognitive function and concentration. The calming nature of yoga makes it a powerful tool for health improvements, both physically and mentally.

The "Tree Pose" is a common yoga pose that can not only help improve your balance but also help you feel calm in the moment as well as contribute to stress reduction and an increased self-awareness when done consistently. However, you may want to skip this pose if you have low blood pressure or any medical conditions that affect your balance.

Here's how you do it:

First, stand with your feet together and take a few short breaths.

Next, raise your right leg so that the sole of your right foot is touching the inner thigh of your left leg. Try to keep your leg in place, use your hands to grab your ankle if it helps.

Take a few deep breaths as you hold your pose. You can bring your hands up to your chest or raise your arms above your head if you feel stable enough.

Once you're finished, lower your right leg and repeat with your left leg. Repeat this process as many times as you'd like.
